Mission Dejunking

March 5, 2014

I’m on a mission this year to dejunk and declutter our house. As in–drastic decluttering. Why? Because after 23 years of marriage we’ve managed to accumulate more than we need/use and it’s time to simplify.

On a positive note, all of the snow days has given us some time to get the process started. We recently combed through the contents of our attic and I took a day to sort and organize. It felt amazing! Now, to get rid of the stuff we want to get rid of. LOL For the moment, because once again we were hit by a massive snow storm and our driveway could double as an ice skating rink, the mess is piled by the back door, but it will be going to the Salvation Army as soon as I’m able to take it there.

In the meantime I hope to go through closets and drawers and gather up more to donate. It feels good to see things getting “lighter” and to have less mess to deal with.

What is your “mission” for the next couple months? Anyone doing any pre-Spring cleaning?

Creative Fun

February 16, 2014

I’ve discovered the fun of painting. A while back I won an oil painting class. As the winner, I got to pick the project for the class. I picked a seascape. Not exactly an “easy” first painting, but I had SO. MUCH. FUN. And it didn’t turn out too badly if I say so myself.

Since then, I’ve attempted a few other projects. Now, don’t get me wrong, I suck at it. I didn’t have art in school so when I say I draw stick people–I mean, I DRAW STICK PEOPLE. LOL But I’ve discovered it doesn’t matter what I draw so long as I have fun and enjoy the process. And you know what? I do.

Some days I don’t have time to drag out the oil paints and prep so I picked up a blank journal not long ago and I’ve been experimenting with different things like chalk, sharpies, watercolor pencils etc. Good? Not me. But again, it’s all about the FUN. Writing is a creative process and sometimes I find myself stumped over what comes next. The words just aren’t there. But if I do something else, like play in my paints, it frees my mind and allows the words and images to appear.

Do you do anything for fun? A hobby or creative process you enjoy?

Snow, snow–Go!

February 9, 2014

I have to say it– I am SICK of snow. Here in Ohio we’ve been hit by two Polar Vortexes and it’s so cold. The last few days have warmed up (You know it’s been cold when teens and twenties seem WARM.) but not enough to melt anything. My driveway is a sheet of ice covered with snow then more ice with snow on top of that. Basically–it’s just a big frozen mess here.

The good news in that is that it’s giving me writing time and “down” time. The problem is that too often I find myself eyeing sunny pics on Pinterest while I dream of lying on a beach somewhere.

What’s the weather like in your area? Are you as sick of winter as I am?

Groovin’

January 30, 2014

So for the first time in YEARS, I took December off (for the most part) and didn’t do much writing. The problem now? Getting back in the groove after being off for so long. Yup, it’s hard to find my writing mojo after a break that long. The good news is I think I’ve finally managed to get into the swing of things once more and finally made the word count for the writing challenge I’m involved in.

Not bad since January in Ohio has been MISERABLE with the whole Polar Vortex thing. I’m perfectly content to stay home and huddle beneath a blanket-or blankets-as the case may be.

How is your January shaping up? With the end in sight, it’s time to find that groove!

New Digs

January 25, 2014

My wonderful, fabulous web gal has been a busy, busy girl. What do you think of the updates? Pretty cool, huh? I’m still getting to know the site myself but I look forward to checking things out.

In the meantime, curl up with a good book and a thick blanket. If you’re like me, you’re sick of winter and more than ready for it to be over.

Take care!
